President Donald J. Trump has kept his poll
promise and is moving closer to end the unconstitutional and controversial
Obama era program popularly known as DACA (Deferred Action for Child Arrivals).
This is the program that has helped legalize hundreds of illegal immigrant
children who were brought to the U.S. by their parents.
In order to be eligible for the program the
person must have come to the country before the age of 16 and lived
continuously here for at least a period of five years. They should not have
committed a felony or any serious misdemeanor offences.
The bureaucracy under Obama misused the program
and even allowed applicants with criminal records to enter the country.
Criminal behavior was discounted with the purpose of allowing someone to enter
the country illegally.
The majority of those that benefitted from this
program were actually adults aged 18 – 25 with criminal records. The program
has been misused by everyone and the President is right in putting an end to
it.
On DACA, President Donald J. Trump has done the
right thing. The media as usual is going overboard saying that it will lead to
mass deportations. This is not what the President wants to do.
When the program ends it provides a perfect
opportunity for Congress to bring in an immigration plan that is sensible and
good for the country. This is something that all Americans want to see
implemented in the future.
The President has rightly tweeted that he will
revisit the issue if the Congress cannot act on it. This is the right and
correct approach to the immigration problem that has been plaguing America for
too long.
It is time that someone addressed this problem
and it is best that the President is tackling it in the right way. President
Donald J. Trump has fulfilled one more of the promises he made to the people
who voted him to power.
