On Wednesday, Heidi Heitkamp, Democrat Senator,
referred to Trump's rhetoric in regard to tax reform as "encouraging"
and stated that she was dedicated to working with the Grand Old Party (GOP) on
an overhaul of taxes, merely hours after the United States president pulled her
onto the stage while giving a speech within her state.
On Wednesday, the president of the United States pitched
a plan to reform its nation's tax code, praising Heidi Heitkamp. Later on in
the day, Heitkamp praised President Trump, yet warned, ‘the devil is within the
details.’
Heitkamp added in a statement that today Trump spoke
of his tax reform priorities, and it is encouraging that he dedicated to
promoting American employees as key to all tax reform policies. However, as the
previous Tax Commissioner for North Dakota, she knows the devil is within the
details of all reform plans as tax codes are complicated, and they have to know
what these details include.
Heitkamp adds that she has long stated that she is
open to working with Democrats and Republicans on permanent, comprehensive tax
reform which promotes people of North Dakota within their working years and
will protect their dignity within their retirement, and she intends to keep on working
with both sides to see if she can derive a tax reform plan which will work for
North Dakota retirees and workers.
Her presence at this event was touted by the people of
the White House as an indication of bipartisan support for Trump’s tax
overhaul. However, the North Dakota Democrat hasn’t endorsed the president’s
proposal.
Heitkamp's appearance by Trump still seemed to be an amicable
one, with Trump even complimenting Heitkamp as "a good woman."
