The Innocence Project Celebrates 28-Year Anniversary

Monday, August 24, 2020, marks 28 years of the Innocence Project. The Innocence Project has over 40% of their cases result in exoneration.

The Innocence Project was started as a small legal clinic by Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck and is now on the front lines of the growing movement to fight for the wrongfully convicted, nearly three decades later.

The two met as public defenders at the Legal Aid Society in the Bronx. Along with a team of students, they learned about DNA methods through their work in the 1980s on the case of Marion Coakley — a man who was wrongly convicted of rape and robbery.

The Innocence Project clinic at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law began with two simple ideas: If DNA technology could prove people guilty of crimes, it could also prove that people who had been wrongfully convicted were innocent. And when they proved people innocent, they could start identifying the root causes of wrongful convictions to fix a broken system — collect data, pass legislation, reform case law, publicize the work, and replicate the model across the United States and abroad.

Since its launch, the Innocence Project has helped exonerate more than 220 innocent people. Through the brave efforts of their clients and brilliant, idealistic colleagues, there are now 68 Innocence Network member organizations in 13 countries and over 2,600 exonerations in the US. They’re so proud of what their team has been able to do, and they know it wouldn’t be possible without the people who have given generously over the years to fund this work.

So for the Innocence Project’s 28th birthday, they’re asking you to make a donation of $28 or whatever you can to help make sure they can keep fighting for the innocent for another 28 years and beyond.

There is still so much work to be done in the months and years to come to develop the most scientifically rigorous, reliable methods so that they can get to the truth. They’re focused on addressing root causes of wrongful convictions like racial bias and police misconduct. And they couldn’t keep fighting without the support of their community.

They’re so grateful for everyone who has helped — in big ways and small — throughout the last 28 years to get them where they are today. Here’s to 28 more!

In other news, Mitchell Schultz has a new book coming out, entitled “The Predictor.” The book will explain about how Lamar Burks, incarcerated for over 20 years, and Pervis Payne on death row for 32 years, as two innocent men wrongly convicted who can prove their innocence. Stay tuned for updates on its release and be the first one to get your copy of this sizzling new release!

Criminal Reform Supported by New Journey Pac

Is clemency possible for Lamar Burks (as he can prove his innocence if allowed) after 20 years in jail? Is a reprieve possible for Payne who has spent 32 years on death row and scheduled for execution on December 3rd, 2020? The Innocence Project has acknowledged its belief that he is innocent.

New Journey would announce their support of these two black prisoners proclaiming their innocence and pledges its support behind President Trump's re-election and to help bring in an additional 5% of Afro-Americans as an overflow from his Criminal Reform Program now adding these few black men to the list of those who deserve the Presidents pardon on its merit. These men deserve to be set free. Both have paid more than a debt and its time they need to be heard.

Our group, The New Journey Pac is one of America's leading Republican Conservative Afro-American groups in the USA. Our goal is to get more Afro-Americans to vote for President Trump and for other congressional Republicans in November.  The GOP must regain The House to de-throne her Majesty Nancy Pelosi. Plus keep the Senate and re-elect Donald Trump

We are the GOOD GUYS and we want to give hope and help to many less fortunate Blacks in poor areas by replacing the Democratic positions that have failed to fulfill their promises. Donald Trump has over delivered on his promises and that is why so many millions follow and support him. But he ONLY received 8%, yes only EIGHT PERCENT of the Black Vote in 2016. We aim to get that number MUCH, MUCH higher.

HOW...

Through EDUCATION and the power of their vote is what matters. That will enable things to change in their favor. Our website www.BlackCovid-19News.com  keeps up with why and how COVID-19 has had such a negative effect on the Black Nation and what they can do about protecting themselves.

If YOU want to help make a difference and can help, please give what you can. Now. Every dollar makes a difference. We were short of our $500,000 goal by the summer. However, we recently passed the $400,000 mark and are hopeful we will reach our goal. DONATE HERE.
