On
Sunday, black church congregants in Selma, AL, turned their backs on Mike
Bloomberg when he addressed them.
The
protest that remained peaceful and silent, took place as presidential hopeful
Mike Bloomberg was giving his speech on “Bloody Sunday’s,” 55th
anniversary, a day in which authorities attacked blacks during a civil rights
march within the town.
On
Sunday, multiple images shared to social media depicted both white and black
voters standing up with their backs turned to Mike inside the Brown Chapel AME
Church.
Former
Georgia Dem gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams was seated behind Mike during
the speech, according to the ones who went to the event.
Bloomberg,
former NYC mayor, has had a history of questionable statements that surround America’s
black citizens.
During
his Young Men’s Initiative launch in 2011, he claimed Latino and black males ‘do
not know how to behave inside the workplace.’
During
his NYC mayor tenure, almost 5M individuals, mainly young males of color, were
stop and frisked.
Mr.
Bloomberg’s resurfaced stop-and-frisk statements came within an Aspen Institute
speech, in which Mike pushed the concept of cities taking initiative on
enforcing and instituting weapon bans.
The
former mayor stated of minorities, ‘Toss them against a wall then frisk them,’ and
confessed that ‘we placed all of the police in minority communities…. because
that is where all of the crime is.’
According
to the Aspen Times, they quoted Bloomberg as stating, ‘Cities
must get weapons out of the hands” of people who are “minority, male, and
between ages 15 to 25.’
