Matt
Schlapp, the chairman for the ACU (American Conservative Union) officially
“disinvited” Senator Mitt Romney from the 2020 CPAC (Conservative Political
Action Conference) due to his vote to call on extra witnesses in Trump’s
impeachment trial.
According
to Schlapp’s tweet on Friday, the Junior
Senator from Utah and ‘extreme conservative, @SenatorRomney is formally disinvited
to #CPAC2020.
Romney,
in conjunction with Senator Susan Collins, broke from the Republican party to
vote in favor of hearing more witnesses.
The
step to subpoena extra documents and witnesses in the trial failed within a 51
to 49 vote after additional moderate Repubs voted “no.”
The
Senate is currently expected to vote on Wednesday on the acquittal of Trump.
The
Conservative Political Action Conference is among the biggest collectives of
conservatives in the country, and President Trump has spoken at CPAC the past 3
years.
In
addition, in 2012, Romney spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference
as a presidential candidate, yet the present Utah senator ruffled the feathers of
several conservatives for criticizing the administration.
2020’s
CPAC is set to start on Feb. 26th at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention
Center with Devin Nunes, Brexit leader Nigel Farage, and conservative
commentator Mark Levin as a few of the speakers on the roster.
